Why a Good Core Workout is Important

Getting that summer six pack is a great incentive to strengthen the core. Let’s be honest, most of us are just looking to do core workouts to look good on the beach, or at the lake. Little do we realize there are other reasons why a strong core is good for the body.

Greatist puts it like this, “The core (composed of the oft-mentioned upper and lower abdominals as well as the side, back, psoas, and glutei muscles) provides a muscular framework that protects internal organs, aids movement, and lends balance and stability to the whole body.”

Have you ever heard, A strong core is a strong back? OK, well now you have. A good core workout will eventually give you a flatter stomach, but can also benefit in better posture, upper back pain relief and lower back pain relief, and injury prevention.

Best Health Mag talks about a couple of these reasons a good core workout is important. When your deeper muscles start working, you will be able to build core stability and core strength. The stability and strength will improve your overall fitness and prevent injury down the road.

Here are some reasons why having a strong core is important for the rest of your body.

1. Helps prevent injuries

  • Doing core workouts to build strong abdominal muscles will create better stability in the body. Like noted above, more stability means that your back and stomach muscles will be working together. When the muscles are working together to stabilize your body and help you move, you will be able to prevent injuries.

2. Eliminates upper back pain and lower back pain

  • Again, when the core muscles are weak, your back will be doing most of the work. When your back is doing most of the work it will get tired, and sore from all the weight that is being carried from your back. To evenly distribute the weight that is carried in the body, doing core workouts to develop a strong core will ultimately eliminate upper back pain and lower back pain.

3. Keeps internal organs healthy

  • Your core is where your organs are located. Strengthening the muscles around the organs will help keep them protected and healthy. Good core workouts will help build this muscle.

It’s been said quite a bit in this article, but just to refresh your memory, A strong core is a strong back. The back and the core work together to help the body stay mobile. So, if you have back pain, an underlying cause could be that your core is not strong. So, the answer is... getting a good core workout to help strengthen the abdominal muscles!

A question people often ask is…

HOW will a good core workout help upper back pain and lower back pain?

In most people, the back muscles are stronger than the abdominal muscles. This could be caused by bad posture, not the correct technique working out, slouching at a desk at work, injury. When the back is stronger, this means that it will carry most of the weight. Without a strong core, your back will be doing all the work.

A good core workout will eventually strengthen the abdominal muscles and will ultimately balance the strength and weight distribution in the body to relieve the back pain.

HOW to get a good core workout

Is your core workout too repetitive? Crunches, crunches, and more crunches. Crunches seem to be everyone's go-to work out for a toned core. Anything too repetitive can get boring very fast. Getting in a good core workout to get that strong core doesn’t have to just involve crunches anymore.

That’s right, you can get a core workout that engages your entire body with the Plexus Wheel.

The wheel can be used as an unstable surface. It will make the muscles fire quicker and engage more muscles.
